Following our introductory visit, we prepare a quotation based on the proposed shape and size of your glass extension, including the door configuration and foundations within our scope.
This gives you an understanding of the cost before we move into a detailed measured survey and design.
A quotation you can discuss
We explain what is included and identify any assumptions that need checking. Foundation requirements, for example, must be confirmed through the structural design and relevant site investigations.
We then review the proposal with you. If you want to change the size, layout or door arrangement, this is a useful point to discuss the effect on your budget.
Surveying with our own FARO scanners
Once you are happy with the quoted cost and wish to progress, we offer a detailed scan of the property. Glasspace owns its own FARO laser scanners, so we can carry out this measured survey in-house.
The scanner records millions of measurements from visible surfaces. Together, these points create a three-dimensional record called a point cloud. Photographs add colour and visual detail, helping us interpret the measured information. FARO scanning guidance ↗
For your extension, the survey records the relevant parts of the building and surrounding space, including openings and visible levels. It provides a detailed reference for design; hidden ground conditions still require appropriate investigation.
Designing around the existing building
Walls and openings are not always perfectly straight or square. Once the scan has been processed and checked, we can account for the visible variations and develop the connections between your home and the new structure.
The next article explains how we use this information to develop the design with you. Contact Glasspace if you would like to discuss the survey stage of your project. Discuss your project ↗
